Béarla go Gaeilge

Hello

A quiet, friendly place to practise a living language.

Béarla go Gaeilge — literally "English to Irish" — is a small archive of spoken Irish phrases. The idea is simple: read a phrase, hear it, say it back. Then move on, or press play again. There is no exam at the end.

Each chapter opens as a small grid of phrase cards — tap any card to hear it spoken. The voice is a patient, native speaker — slow enough to follow, never patronising.

You don't need an account. You don't need an app. Bookmark the page, come back when you have a moment with a cup of tea, learn a few phrases, leave. The Irish will still be here.

If you spot something wrong, or you'd like to suggest a phrase, please get in touch — corrections are warmly welcome.

A few Irish blessings, for the road

  • Tús maith, leath na hoibre. A good start is half the work.
  • Is fearr Gaeilge briste, ná Béarla cliste. Broken Irish is better than clever English.
  • Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí. Praise the young and they will flourish.
